In collaboration with UW and VAPSHCS clinicians, molecular geneticists, and statistical geneticists, we are in the process of developing research protocols which will focus on the genetics of mental illness, with emphasis on schizophrenia and dementing disorders. We are currently utilizing the state-of-the-art molecular genetics approaches to identify genes that increase the susceptibility to develop schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, and Lewy body dementia. Our goal is to find rare and common genetic variants that may contribute to the development of these complex genetic disorders.
