Bio
Dr. Roy-Byrne's original research focused on the neurobiology of panic and related anxiety disorders and the specific role of the GABA-Benzodiazepine complex in pathological anxiety states. More recently, he has been heading up a number of large NIMH-funded effectiveness trials focusing on the real-world treatment of panic disorder and PTSD. As part of this work, he is collecting DNA from participants in the hope of identifying gene variants associated with response to treatment with both pharmacologic agents as well as with cognitive behavioral strategies. He is collaborating with Joel Galernter, M.D., at Yale University in this genetic research.
