Bio
Dr. Peskind is the Friends of Alzheimer’s Research Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. She is Associate Director of the University of Washington Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (and Director of its Clinical Core) and Co-Director of the VA Northwest Network Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center. She completed her medical training and Psychiatry residency at the University of Washington School of Medicine and a research fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at VA Puget Sound Health Care System.
At the national level, Dr. Peskind is an elected member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. Her research over the past 25 years has addressed stress hormones in aging and Alzheimer’s disease, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers of aging and neurodegenerative dementing disorders, and treatment for both the cognitive impairment and noncognitive behavioral problems of Alzheimer’s disease. She is Co-Principal Investigator of a 13-site multi-center VA Cooperative study of prazosin for combat trauma posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Most recently, Dr. Peskind’s research has also included the clinical phenomenology and neuroimaging and CSF biomarkers of neurodegeneration in combat blast concussion mild traumatic brain injury. She has conducted single site as well as multi-site large scale studies of CSF biomarkers and pharmacological treatment trials for behavioral disorders.
